Walter “Wally” Robert Wiland, 71, of Hilliard, FL passed away Tuesday, November 18 at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. He was born September 12, 1954 in Myersdale, PA to the late Ora Elizabeth Garlitz Wiland. He retired from St. Johns River Power Park after 23 years of faithful service. In his younger years in Maryland, he enjoyed hunting with his family and friends. Once he moved to Florida, he loved working in his garden and took great pride in his tomatoes. Mr. Wiland enjoyed watching western shows and Fox News. He mostly loved spending times with his family especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son: Chris Wiland; a brother: Gary Wiland and 2-sisters: Judy Broadwater and Mary Ellen Stark.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years: Mary Jane Hetz Wiland; his daughter and son-in-law: Melissa and James Finley; 2-brothers: Marlin Wiland and Sylvan Wiland; his grandchildren: Lindsey (Turner) Cameron, Nathan (Sonya) Finley, Jacob (Lexie) Finley, Luke (Harmony) Wiland and Anna Jane (Jordan) Finley; 2-great grandchildren: Everly Cameron and Crew Cameron and his beloved fur baby: Poody.
The family will receive friends Sunday, November 23 at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home – Callahan Chapel, 617365 Brandies Avenue, Callahan, FL beginning at 5 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24 at 3:00 PM at River Road Baptist Church with Pastor Benjie Loyd and Pastor Hal McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to River Road Baptist Church Widow’s Fund or donations of cat food to the local humane society.
