James Ernest Stamps, Jr., 85, of Callahan, FL passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2025. He was born in East Point, GA on October 1, 1940, to the late James Ernest Stamps, Sr. and Nellie Mae Stamps Johnson.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife: Harriette Corso Stamps; brother: Ray Stamps; and grandson: Andy Stamps.
Together with his loving wife of 57 years, they raised six wonderful children: Michael Bohannon (Rhonda), Donna Freeman (Kent), Deberah Dunn (Brian), Ernie Stamps, Joann Hamrick, and Anthony Stamps (Michele). In addition to his children, he is survived by a sister: Cheryl “Susie” Freeze; brothers: Jerry Stamps, Larry Stamps, and Randy Stamps (Debbie); 16 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was a dedicated Tractor Trailer Mechanic for Winn Dixie Warehouse in Jacksonville, Florida, for 33 years. He passed down his incredible work ethic to his children.
His hobbies included: gardening, tinkering with electronics and cars, CB Club, and going to yard sales.
Some of his many interests were going to Jax Raceways to watch his brother, Ray, race his stock car, and a love for politics, reading, researching, and raising cows. He also loved classic country music. His favorite artists were Hank Williams, Sr. and Jim Reeves
A service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home- Callahan Chapel, 617365 Brandies Avenue, Callahan, FL 32011. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, 37345 Ruby Drive, Hilliard, FL 32046. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
