Boyd, born March 2, 1938, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He was the kind of man whose presence made people feel safe, loved, and cared for. A devoted husband to Sandra, a proud father to five daughters and two sons, and a Pop to seventeen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren, his life was rooted in family. He loved fiercely, gave generously, and showed up for the people he loved time and time again.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Boyd served his country honorably before continuing a life defined by hard work, humility, and service to others. No matter where life took him or what job he held, one thing remained true, Boyd was a builder in every sense of the word. With gifted hands and a patient heart, there was hardly anything he could not fix, create, or bring to life. But more importantly, he built a family grounded in love, faith, strength and loyalty.
Boyd was known for his honesty, his kindness, and the quiet way he helped others without ever asking for recognition. He was the man people called when they needed a helping hand, or simply someone they could count on. He gave freely of himself and loved without condition.
To know Boyd was to know what a true family man looked like. His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were among his greatest joys, and the legacy he leaves behind lives on in each of them.
Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, Beatrice Ricks and Allen Ricks, and his sister, Gail Milton.
Boyd is lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Sandra; his children: Anna McDonald (Rick), Karen Johnson, Lynda Basgall (John), Michael Ricks (Angie), Steven Newsome, Leah Conner (Eric), and Jennie Griffin (Chuck Griffin-deceased); along with his extended family members, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Though our hearts ache from his absence, there is comfort in knowing he was a saved man who loved the Lord. We find peace believing that when he entered Heaven, he was greeted with the words, “Well done.”
Beloved beyond measure, Boyd’s life was a blessing. His love is a gift that will remain with his family forever.
A graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Jacksonville National Cemetery with Dr. Lynn Hyatt officiating.
